I-T raids an attempt to cripple my campaign: Rizwan

Arshad's remarks came hours after I-T sleuths raided his campaign office and several of his accomplices in an early morning crackdown.

Like the alliance between Congress and JD(S) in Karnataka, BJP is allied with the Income-Tax Department, alleged Bangalore Central Congress candidate Rizwan Arshad, here on Thursday. The remarks came hours after I-T sleuths raided his campaign office and several of his accomplices in an early morning crackdown.

"Is it the job of the I-T department to raid an opposition candidate's campaign office? On what basis was the office raided?" he questioned, adding that the department had searched several persons he wasn't even acquainted with. "They have even grilled these individuals asking them whether they were my relatives or how they were associated with me," he said.

He accused the BJP of resorting to such tactics fearing imminent defeat in Bengaluru in the upcoming elections. I-T department is working to regulate and disturb the campaign of opposition candidates, he said adding that the coalition candidates will not be intimidated by such tactics.

According to Arshad, 15 to 20 people were raided by I-T officials without evidence. They know we haven't hidden anything," he said. "BJP is using I-T department to divert my attention and cripple my campaign," he said.
