Last Updated 30 May 2019, 09:01 IST

The Kaveripura ward on Wednesday witnessed ruckus during the byelection for the ward as supporters from BJP and Coalition candidate fought with each other with canes.

The incident took place in polling booth of Spark School in Pattigere Pallya around 12 noon on Wednesday when JDS party supporters accused BJP of bringing their party workers from other areas and attacking them. BJP supporters alleged that JD(S) leader Prakash attacked their party workers during the elections.

The dramatic scene at the place intensified after the aides of BJP corporator from Govindarajanagar Dasegowda and Mohankumar indulged in a fight with supporters of JD(S) party leader Prakash.

However, police intervened and canned both supporters at the place to calm down both sides. Police also had to shut shops in the area to bring the situation under control. Tension gripped the area for some time as shops were forced to shut doors.

The photo of JD(S) leader Prakash, who was seen holding an iron bar, went viral on social media. Speaking to media persons, Prakash said, "I have not attacked anyone. I have just handed over the iron rod brought by BJP supporters to vandalise the place. But it is being portrayed that I was vandalising the place. I have also filed a complaint in a police station," he said.
