BJP rally disrupts Basavanagudi traffic

Last Updated 08 May 2018, 19:54 IST

Traffic was disrupted in South Bengaluru on roads leading to National College grounds in Basavanagudi on Tuesday where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed an election rally. Though Modi’s visit was scheduled at 6.30 pm, traffic movement was restricted since afternoon on all major roads surrounding National College grounds since there were a large number of VVIP/VIP convoy movements.

Traffic was affected on K R Road, Pampa Mahakavi Road and other approach roads from Vanivilas Road, Dr B N V Subramanya Circle and junctions surrounding KPTCL sub-station, where commuters had to wait for long, waiting for convoys to move one after the other.

Traffic was blocked on the entire Shankarapuram main road which was cordoned off for VVIP/VIP movement towards National College Grounds, hassling numerous commuters, including hospital goers and local residents. As there was a heavy deployment of police personnel, even residents could not take out their vehicles while commuters could not get back home. "My father is a patient at the Shankar hospital and my family was held up in traffic for quite sometime in the evening," said Nirmala R, a resident of Basavanagudi.

Traffic police from Northeast, South, North and West traffic divisions were roped in to manage the vehicular movement around National College grounds. Traffic eased only around 9 pm after the convoys left.
