Bright ideas at science expo for govt school students

Last Updated 09 February 2016, 20:06 IST

A two-day science and maths exhibition for government school students which began in the City on Tuesday proved that though these children  might be financially poor they are filled with rich ideas and artistic talent.

The exhibition was jointly organised by the government high schools in Ejipura and Jayanagar 9th Block.

The venue in Jayanagar 9th Block was crowded and buzzing with students and visitors. Students had arrived from various schools in the vicinity to see the models on display.
While one team demonstrated the production of electricity from rotten vegetables, another had come up with various methods to detect food adulteration. Visitors flocked to models on garbage management, Swachh Bharat and rainwater harvesting.

Though this is the first time that the students are participating in such an exhibition, they did well, said a teacher. The students said they themselves chose most of the ideas behind their models, while their teachers assigned a few. Such exhibitions will help them understand the applications of theories and concepts in their textbooks. The students had a week to prepare models for the exhibition. It would not have been possible without the teachers’ support, said the students.

Short films and documentaries narrating the success stories of achievers were also screened at the exhibition. The students will vote for the best model on Wednesday.
