'Builders encroach on football stadium land'

The Yediyur ward corporator N R Ramesh on Friday alleged that the BBMP officers connived with the builders and land grabbers to encroach the football stadium at Shanthinagar and made the khathas in their names.

Raising the issue in the BBMP Council, Ramesh alleged that the KSFA broke the lease agreement by subleasing the football stadium to the builders and other commercial establishments. He demanded the Commissioner to terminate the agreement.

Ramesh said the Palike had leased 1,86,653 sq ft of land for the football stadium on a condition that it should use the premises only for sports activities and should not sublease it. Any violation of the conditions would result in the termination of the agreement.

However, in violation of the agreement, KSFA leased out 4,950 sq ft of land to a private fashion designing college, 12,200 sq ft to Raheja Point and 7,687 sq ft to Raheja Plaza, said Ramesh. He alleged that some corrupt BBMP officers even helped to get the Khatha transferred to Raheja Hotel and Estates. The property, Ramesh said, in the custody of Raheja, is worth Rs 80 crore.

“The KSFA is getting a rent of Rs 40 lakh per month. He alleged that a Dhobi Ghat in 26,405 sq ft area and a private vehicle parking facility are functioning inside the complex,” said Ramesh. He added that the market value of the subleased property is Rs 375 crore.

Ramesh demanded the lease to be terminated and action taken against the builders as well as the BBMP officers who helped the builder get Khatha done in his favour.

The BBMP Commissioner Rajneesh Goel said he would verify records pertaining to the KSFA and initiate measures to cancel the agreement.
