A burglary attempt was made at the residence of the former Isro chief, U R Rao, at JB Nagar on Tuesday night.
The police said the house had been locked since Rao’s demise in 2017, and his son was staying separately.
The incident came to light on Wednesday morning when their driver noticed that the back door of the house was forced open, and he alerted the family members. They found that except for Rs 2,000 no other valuables were stolen, and informed the police.
The JB Nagar police came to the spot along with the canine squad and fingerprint experts and conducted a mahazar (spot inspection). They registered a case following a complaint and are on the lookout for the suspects.
