Cab driver kidnaps baby

A 35-year-old cab driver was arrested for kidnapping an 11-month-old baby from a couple after sedating the mother with sleeping pills.

He escaped with the baby from the house in Sunkadakatte on Friday. The accused John, a resident of Ramamurthy Nagar, had an affair with the child’s mother having contacted her by social media.

Police said the mother was alone on May 24 at home, while her husband was at work. The husband returned home and did not find the baby.

He woke up his wife sleeping on the bed and learnt that John visited her and gave her a pill claiming that it would slim her down. The woman said she fell asleep after taking the pill.

The couple’s older daughter told them that John had taken the baby. They filed a complaint with the Kamakshipalya police. The police received a tipoff about John’s location and arrested him. John had given the baby boy to his sister saying it was his. The cab driver was produced before the magistrate and was remanded to judicial custody.
