Cabbie, ex-rly official killed in accidents

A 35-year-old cab driver was killed while his friend sustained injuries after their speeding car crashed into a supporting wall at a flyover near Jayadeva Hospital on Thursday night.

Syed Mujahid sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.

The two Whitefield residents were returning from Bannerghatta after some work when the incident occurred around 12.30 am.

A senior police officer said that Mujahid was driving recklessly and lost control of the vehicle which rammed into the supporting wall of the flyover.

Mico Layout police rushed the two to hospital, but Mujahid was declared brought dead.

His friend is undergoing treatment.

In yet another incident, a 66-year-old retired railway official was killed after his bike collided with a truck near Kannamangala Gate at Kempegowda International Airport on Thursday morning.

Himanshu Sonawala, a native of Gowribidanur, had come to Yelahanka and was riding to Chikkaballapura around 11 am when a truck took a turn without signal near Kannamangala Gate. Himanshu hit the truck and fell on the road. He sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.

Devanahalli police seized the truck and arrested its driver Lingaraju.
