A 25-year-old cab driver was allegedly stabbed to death by his friend during a drunken brawl in southern Bengaluru's Bandepalaya early on Tuesday morning.

Yeshwanth, the victim, had gone to the house of his friend Sunil's uncle. Another friend, Swamy, was also there. The friends consumed liquor and were partying. Around 3 am, Sunil went to sleep while Yeshwanth and Swamy kept talking and got into an argument. In a fit of rage, Swamy went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and stabbed Yeshwanth in the chest.

Sunil heard Yeshwanth's screams and rushed to his rescue. But Swamy attacked him, too, and fled the spot. Police rushed to the spot after being informed and rushed Yeshwanth to a hospital where he was declared brought dead, a senior police officer said.

Police have opened a case of murder and say they have definite clues about Swamy. All the friends were residents of ITI Layout in Bandepalaya. Sunil is a cab driver while Swamy works at a hotel.
