For the first time, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths paraded drug peddlers their office, warning them that they were under the police radar.

On Friday, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Alok Kumar paraded around 60 drug peddlers at the CCB headquarters in Chamrajpet. All of them were under 40 years of age with the majority of them in their 20s, the police said. The move was to make the peddlers know that the police are monitoring their activities. The sleuths not only monitor their economic activities but also frequently contact them and also counsel them to give information about their accomplices who are still dealing with drugs.

“The parade for peddlers is similar to that of rogues that happen at every police station, police sub-divisions and divisions. We have put up a list of top 25 drug peddlers in the city so that the citizens can identify them if they get into the drug dealing again. Meanwhile, this is also a deterrent for the peddlers from indulging into drug dealing anymore,” Alok Kumar told DH.

The exercise is basically to reduce the drug menace in the city, he added.
