A CEO of an export and manufacturing company has lodged a complaint with the CID police against an unidentified individual for launching a malware attack on his company's servers.

The official said in the complaint that his company, located in the Peenya Industrial Estate, has been offering solutions for metal refining, gold coins and bars, jewellery, precious metal chemicals, gifts, investments and watches. It has been in the business since 1977.

On May 28, the company had a malware attack on its two servers and two systems, which compromised important mails and some of its data. The attack has also paralysed its normal workflow.

Based on the CEO's complaint, the cybercrime police registered an FIR on June 1, and the CID is trying to trace the source of the attack.

Investigators suspect business rivalry and also hinted at the possibility of a disgruntled employee wanting to settle scores with the company.

The police are also doing a background check on the company's staff who have access to the systems, while also collecting information on employees who recently quit or were sacked.
