The City Civil Court ordered the seizure of cars of the BBMP Commissioner, Special Commissioner and Joint Commissioner, for not paying a pending amount of Rs 55 lakh, to a garbage contractor.

Harish, a Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) garbage contractor,
had moved court demanding the payment from the civic body.

According to initial reports, after hearing Harish’s plea, the court has ordered the seizure of the officials’ cars, if the BBMP does not settle the concerned payment.

Speaking to DH, BBMP Commissioner, N Manjunath Prasad said, “The case is 11 years old. The contractor has asked for the payment of Rs 2.5 crore, but, according to our records, we have to pay just Rs 55 lakh. The payment was pending due to the verification process of the papers and bills. The BBMP will settle the payment of the contractor in two days,” he said.

Confirming the court’s order, Sarfaraz Khan, joint commissioner, health and solid waste management, BBMP, said, “The court ordered the seizure on Monday, but so far, we have not received the copy of the order. After verification, we will pay the amount.”

“We have cleared all the pending payments of the garbage contractors. As the case is 11 years old, we don’t know why this particular payment was delayed. At that particular time, the payments were under the BBMP’s health department,” he added.
