Median opening floods BSK crossroads with traffic

Residents of Banashankari 2nd Stage are irked by the heavy traffic movement in bylanes that disturbs the peace and serenity of the neighbourhood.

They say vehicles heading to the Ring Road and Banashankari Complex are using shortcuts into 28th Cross, 27th Cross and 26th Cross. The main reason for the traffic flow is due to the closure of the median opening on the
Ring Road at the end of 15th Main.

Prof B K Chandrashekhar, senior Congress leader and a resident of 28th Cross, said the unusual vehicle flow is causing a lot of congestion in the crossroads.

“This also creates air and noise pollution. We have complained about the issue to the authorities concerned, but none of them have solved the problem,” he said.

After studying the traffic infrastructure on the 15th Main junction at 100 Feet Ring Road at Banashankari 2nd stage — between the Kadirenahalli underpass junction and Devegowda petrol bunk — D Prasad, an infrastructure engineer, said the median opening should be implemented with precaution.

“This would slow down the traffic,” he observed. “The implementation of the one-way system should be strictly executed at the site by the traffic police.”

M N Srihari, a traffic expert and a former advisor to the state government on matters of traffic and infrastructure, says: “This traffic on the cross roads should be streamlined into the main road with proper one-way systems. The 28th Cross should be made one way from east to west and 27th Cross should be the other way from west to east.
Similarly, the 26th Cross should be made one way from east to west.”

“This would reduce the impact of traffic on residents,” he added.
