You don’t have to wait for an ambulance while taking the ailing person for a dialysis or leave behind the elderly family member to a function because it’s tedious.

A Mumbai-based start-up that seemed to have solved the issue of transporting the ailing and the elderly are now brings their services to Bengaluru.

The firm, Ezymov, provides a modified car that accommodates those on wheelchair for a seamless commute.

The vehicle is fitted with a lift that helps haul up the wheelchair-bound person and strap them in the seat for comfort.

The start-up has partnered with hospitals in Mumbai to provide the service on a subscription basis. Esymov’s Director Rajesh Patil said the service received enthusiastically in Mumbai and the company is looking forward to extending it to Bengaluru.

“Most of our customers are senior citizens or those impaired of mobility. We started off helping the disabled but the service received responses from people with diverse needs,” Patil said, pointing out that families wanting to take the elderly and disabled members along for functions availed their services.

“If a person has to reach the hospital for dialysis, they need not wait for ambulance. They could opt for our service and commute with ease,” he said.

Subscribers can book their slots online and pay on an hourly basis. The start-up provides door-step pick up and drop.

A wheelchair they provide is lifted into the cab and locked for safety.

“The (elderly or disabled) passenger will be safe even if the car were to cruise at 100 KMPH since they’d be strapped with seatbelts,” Patil added.

While the lift was initially bought from Germany, the company now makes it domestically, bringing its cost to a mere Rs 1.75 lakhs. The company also modifies cars to meet the customer’s demands.

“I started off with car rents and later found a need to serve the society, hence the idea,” added the director.
