Commercial tax officer in Lokayukta net

According to the police, Jayaraj, who owns JMM Construction Company, wanted TIN and professional tax registration number for the company.

He had requested his friend Chakravarthi to get the number. When met and enquired, Chandrakanth, the Commercial Tax Inspector allegedly demanded Rs 6,000 from Chakravarthi, but settled for Rs 4,000 after bargaining.

An unwilling Jayaraj lodged a complaint with the police leading to the trap. The police caught Chandrakanth red-handed at his office at VAT office-020, Visvesvaraya Tower, Bangalore on Tuesday.

In another incident, the police arrested Ramesh, AEE and Harini, AE, while they were allegedly receiving Rs 50,000 as bribe from N Nagaraju, a resident of Kengeri town to do an official favour.

Nagaraju met both the officers to ensure work order related to power projects sanctioned to his friends. The duo allegedly demanded Rs one lakh, but settled for Rs 50,000 when bargained.
