Cricket bookie arrested

The CCB officers on Saturday arrested a bookie for betting on the India-Zimbabwe cricket match in the ongoing World Cup.

Based on a tip-off, the police arrested Arun, a resident of Rajajinagar, and recovered Rs 2 lakh in cash, two mobile phones, a laptop and a television from his house. A senior police officer said special teams had been formed to crack down on bookies. “It is a tough task, as they are not co-ordinating from within the City, but from different countries. The teams are working to know their modus operandi and more arrests will be made at the earliest.”

House burgled
Burglars broke into a house in Anugraha Layout in Mico Layout in the early hours of Saturday and made away with gold ornaments.

Police said, Soma, a private firm employee, had gone with his family, when thieves entered the house by forcing the main door. When the family returned at around 12. 30 am, they noticed the door open. They found the house ransacked, and a gold chain and gold ring missing.

Gold chains snatched
Motorbike-borne men went on a robbing spree in the City on Saturday, snatching chains from three women in separate incidents at Yelahanka, Jayanagar and Basaveshwaranagar.

Two men ripped a gold chain from the neck of Jayalakshmamma, 65, while she was standing in front of her house at Judicial Layout in Yelahanka early Saturday morning. Yelahanka police said the chain weighed 12 to 15 grams.

In a similar incident at Jayanagar 8th Block, robbers snatched away a 23gm gold chain from 76-year-old Subbalakshmi while she was going for a stroll on Friday evening. She raised an alarm but in vain.

In the third incident, Usha,  a Vidhana Soudha employee and resident of Basaveshwaranagar, was walking home after alighting from a bus in Mahaganapathi Nagar. She noticed two men following her on a bike. As they approached her, the pillion rider snatched the gold chain weighing 12 gm.
