Dental college celebrates diamond jubilee

In what is claimed to be a first in a government college, the Government Dental College and Research Institute has procured laser equipment that is set to improve patient care.

The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences had sanctioned Rs 41 lakh for its procurement.

Speaking at the diamond jubilee celebrations of the college in here on Friday, Dr Sachidananda S, director, RGUHS said the equipment would be used in the department of preventive medicine.

Dr Kiran Kumar N, Associate Professor in Government Dental College and Research Institute said the equipment has various hard and soft tissue applications.

In the hard tissue application, the laser is used for caries prevention, bleaching, cavity preparation, dentinal hypersensitivity, growth modulation and helps in preventive care as it is used for diagnostic purposes also," he said.

He added the soft tissue application include wound healing and removal of tissue to uncover impacted or partially erupted tooth among others.

Dr Sachidanand said the officials can put before the government their long-pending proposal of seeking additional space for the college on the Victoria Hospital campus.

Dr C V Mohan, chairman, Alumni Benevolence Foundation said the benevolence committee has decided to give a push in the field of research.
