Domestic help held for stealing from employer's house

The police have arrested a 21-year-old domestic help who had stolen gold and diamond jewels worth Rs 90 lakh from his employer’s house and buried the booty at the backyard of his house at his hometown Madhubani in Bihar.

The arrested suspect, Akhilesh Kumar, joined as a domestic help at industrialist Satyaprakash house one and half years ago. After working for a few months, Akhilesh went to Mumbai to earn more money and returned six months ago, the police said.

Since then, he was working at Satyaprakash's house and was staying at the servant quarters.

According to the police, on October 16, Satyaprakash and his family went out of station following which Akhilesh barged into the house and took away the locker containing gold and diamond jewellery. He broke open the locker and took away the valuables and returned to his hometown.

The theft came to light when Satyaprakash and his family returned home. He filed a complaint with the Madiwala police who suspected Akhilesh’ hand in the theft. His phone was also switched off.

Based on the complaint, the police formed a special team and tracked him to his hometown and picked him up for questioning. The police then recovered the stolen booty. He was brought to the city, produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
