Durbar hall of Mysore Palace recreated in city for Ganesha festival

The Mysore Palace will come to Bengaluru at the 55th edition of the Bengaluru Ganesh Utsava that will be held on The National College Grounds in Basavanagudi.

The 11-day cultural festival which begins on Friday will have a replica of the Durbar Hall of the Mysore Palace to welcome Lord Ganesha.

The festival will be eco-friendly by being plastic-free. The Ganesha idol is also being reused from last year.

The Durbar Hall has been designed by film art director B Vittal, popularly known as Appaiah. “It took us almost 90 days with over 100 people to build this and about 10 days to install it on the grounds here,” he said. The hall is about 80X60 feet and is made of fibre reinforced polymer. Gilded columns, stained glass ceilings and decorative chandeliers, which are hallmarks of the Mysore Palace have been recreated here in Bengaluru.

Every year, the mantapa for the festival is made to resemble architectural marvels in Karnataka. In the previous years, replicas of  Melkote temple Kalyani, Kollur Mookambika temple and Dharmastala Manjunatha temple have been recreated at the grounds.

Musicians and folk artists will be taking part to celebrate the festival of Ganesha Chaturthi.

The festival, which attracts over 15,000 people every year, will conclude on September 4.
