The north-east division police arrested a 34-year-old engineering and management graduate for making two hoax bomb threat calls to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on August 27.

Aditya Rao, a resident of KHB colony in Manipal in Udupi district, sent the city police in a tizzy to take revenge on KIA authorities who denied him the security guard job he had applied for.

Rao made a similar threat call to the city railway station on the same day after heated arguments with the railway staff at the cloak room that over-billed him for the luggage he kept there.

Police said Rao, an engineering and MBA graduate , frequently moved his workplace since he did not have a stable job. He recently applied for the security guard job at KIA, where authorities rejected him due to a few missing documents.

An enraged Rao called up the KIAL’s Tele-enquiry desk on August 20 and informed them that bombs have been planted at the domestic flights and in the airport parking lot. He made two more calls on August 27 using his mobile phone making the same claims that bombs are placed in domestic flights and in the parking lot.

KIA police on Tuesday arrested Rao based on his call record details. With his arrest, police have solved five cases, including three hoax call cases and a theft case reported in the south-east division last month.

Further inquiries revealed that Rao was a bachelor who came to the city in search of a job. He worked in private banks and used to switch jobs frequently. After living in Bengaluru for a year-and-a-half, Rao returned to Mangaluru and worked as a security guard at a private engineering college. He quit that job in 2012 to work as a cook at a mutt in Puttige.

Rao was back in Bengaluru last year and worked at an insurance company for six months before leaving the job and went on the run after stealing his colleague’s laptop at a paying guest accommodation. He was booked for the theft at Sudduguntepalya. His run ended with the arrest of KIA police.
