Fake election officials rob people of valuables

In two separate incidents in the city, criminals in the guise of election officers have robbed the people of their valuables.

In the first incident, a 41-year-old software engineer was robbed of his jewellery near Kaikondrahalli lake on May 7.

According to the victim, when he had parked his car near the lake to attend a phone call, a person claiming to a special task officer deployed for elections approached him.

He told the victim not to park the car in the area as it was not safe and asked him to keep all his valuables in the car dashboard. “As it was for my good, I removed my gold chain and finger ring. But before I could keep it down, the man started abusing me and snatched the chain and the ring along with my car and house keys, and fled. He returned house keys when I shouted for keys,” the victim said.

He then lodged a complaint with the Bellandur police stating his gold valuables worth Rs 75,000 was robbed.

The police are investigating further.

In another case, four men in Central Armed Police Forces’ (CAPF) uniforms made away with Rs 50 lakh from a businessman in Upparpet on May 10 around 1 pm.

The victim, Dhanush, who was carrying Rs 50 lakh with him, was about to board a KSRTC bus from Majestic. Four men in CAPF uniforms, claiming to be on election duties, approached him and directed him to accompany them to the police station as he was carrying cash.

When they were near the Upparpet police station, the men asked Dhanush to get down and wait near the police station as the inspector was not at the station.

When Dhanush got down, they sped away.

It was only after sometime Dhanush realised that he was cheated and lodged a complaint with the Upparpet police. The police suspect the role of someone known to the victim in the case.
