The Cyber Crime police are on the lookout for those who created Facebook accounts in the name of Indi constituency (Vijayapura) MLA Yashavantharayagouda V Patil seeking a contribution of $5,000.

Based on a complaint filed by Rudresh S C, personal assistant to the MLA, the cybercrime police have registered an FIR against unknown persons charging them under Section 66 of the IT Act.

Rudresh stated that as many as eight FB accounts in the name of Patil were created which had Patil’s photo. The miscreants also posted messages to make it look like the MLA was posting them.

In one of the accounts, they posted an SOS message saying “Please, I really need 5,000 dollars.” The message also read that he was in dire need of the money and double the amount would be returned to those who contribute.

In the complaint, the MLA has asked the police to trace the accused and take legal action. He has also sought their help to remove all the fake FB accounts.

The police are trying to track the accused through IP addresses and efforts are on to delete the profiles.
