The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will soon be constructing a new road from Jakkur village to National Highway-7.

The civic body issued a public notification to this effect on Thursday, inviting suggestions and objections from landowners in the area.

As per the approved master plan, the BBMP plans to build the new road from Jakkur to National Highway-7, which connects to Ballari Road. The road will be built along the existing railway line. The new 40 feet road is expected to reduce the commute time to the National Highway by about 20 minutes.

The civic body needs a total of 4.65 acres of revenue land along the route and has agreed to provide the transferable development rights for the owners in Jakkur, Jakkur plantation and Shivanahalli villages that come under Bengaluru Urban district. “We are building a new road to decrease the commute time by at least 20 minutes as we are building from Jakkur village to the National Highway. As of now, there is a lot of traffic congestion if people from Jakkur have to reach the highway,” said the BBMP executive engineer of the project.

The civic body has given 10 days from Thursday for people to give suggestions or objections. Dr S Nagaraju, Joint Commissioner, Yelahanka zone, BBMP, said: “The public notification was supposed to be issued in February. It was delayed because of elections.”
