The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will have to furnish its audit report to the State Fourth Finance Commission to avail State and Central grants.

Known for its poor financial management, the BBMP had been avoiding preparation and presentation of its audit reports in its Council till now. However, on Friday the chairperson C G Chinnaswamy, H D Amaranathan and H Shashidhar came calling for BBMP's audit report. They held a meeting with Mayor B N Manjunath Reddy, chairpersons of the standing committees and Palike officers in this regard and asked them to set right their account books. The BBMP has sought one-month time to provide the audit report.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Reddy said, “The audit reports for the past three years are ready, which will be submitted to the Taxation and Finance Committee and Accounts Committee of the BBMP. Later it will be tabled in the Council.”

He added that the BBMP officials assert that the audit reports of the years prior to 2013 were tabled in the Council. However, Reddy, who is a three-time corporator, could not recall the audit report being tabled previously. “I can’t remember the BBMP audit report was ever tabled. Maybe, it was table amid din without our (Congress) knowledge,” quipped Reddy.
