Fire guts truck carrying hay

A truck, loaded with hay stock, was gutted in an accidental fire on the Laggere ring road in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The truck was coming into the city from Tumakuru when the driver noticed the smoke coming out from the engine and pulled up on the roadside before jumping out of the truck along with his cleaner.

The fire engulfed the vehicle within seconds even before fire tenders could reach the spot. The Nandini Layout police rushed to the spot and conducted a detailed probe to ascertain the cause of the fire.

The police suspect that overheating of the engine could have caused the fire. However, the exact reason will be ascertained only after the inspection by concerned authorities, a senior police officer said.
