The police have issued a global lookout notice against Uday K M (Gowda) in connection with a Rs 3-crore cheating case in 2017. Uday (45) is also named as the man behind “Operation Kamala” where he is said to have approached a JD(S) MLA to dethrone the ruling JD(S)-Congress government.

D Devaraj DCP (Central) told DH that the global lookout notice was issued against him four days ago for cheating and forgery cases. Ayaz, the owner of an automobile showroom in the city filed a complaint against Uday accusing him of cheating in a deal related to the Nilgiris building on Brigade Road. Following a court order, the police had conducted raids on his residence in Malleswaram and also at a house of his associate a fortnight ago. However, he managed to escape. “We suspect that he may have fled to a neighbouring country and hence issued a global lookout notice,” Devaraj said.

The police said a case was registered in Cubbon Park police station in 2017 under section 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 IPC (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record). It was alleged that Uday contacted JD(S) MLA H K Kumaraswamy’s wife Chanchala, asking her to persuade her husband to move to the BJP, promising him a good post and Rs 30 crore in cash.
