The Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths arrested two men involved in a hawala transaction of Rs 75.70 lakh and seized the cash while they were waiting in a car in V V Puram on Wednesday.

The suspects are Nisar Ahmed (35), a native of Tolichowki in Hyderabad, and Nandish (52) a native of Ooty in Tamil Nadu.

According to the police, CCB sleuths had credible information over a possible hawala transaction involving two men seated inside a White Hyundai Creta car in front of SBI Bank in V V Puram on Wednesday.

The sleuths surrounded the car and picked up the duo for questioning and seized the Rs 75.70 lakh.

Investigations revealed that the cash was being paid as a commission to a real estate broker in black. The sleuths learnt that Mujahid Alam from Hyderabad had recently purchased a property in Ooty for Rs 7.15 crore.

Soon after the registration, a commission was to be paid to the real estate broker Nandish, who is also from Ooty. Alam’s associate Nisar Ahmed was entrusted with the task of paying up the brokerage to Nandish using a hawala agent in Bengaluru, identified by the sleuths as Dinesh.

While Nisar and Nandish were waiting in the car for Dinesh, the police rounded up the duo and arrested them. The sleuths are on the hunt for others. Further investigations are underway.
