The Income Tax officials have seized more than Rs 1.50 crore in cash during a raid on a hotel in Gandhingar. According to highly placed sources, the cash belongs to Narayana Gowda V Patil, a first division assistant in Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Department. The raid was conducted on Thursday.

It is said that the money was stashed in the rooms of Rajmahal Hotel and was meant to be used for Lok Sabha polls. The cash is said to have been collected as commission from the contractors of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj department. The I-T officials also found sheets with the names of the contractors who have paid the commission.

Patil, who works at Haveri, had obtained two rooms in the hotel for rent and was staying there for the past one week along with his driver. However, he is now absconding. Only the driver was present during the raid.
