Illicit affair ends in couple’s suicide

A businessman and his wife committed suicide in Byatarayanapura after the former’s illicit affair came to light and the woman’s husband filed a complaint against him. While the husband committed suicide on Monday, his wife followed suit on Wednesday.

Residents of Kasturba Nagar on Mysore road, the deceased have been identified as Harish (31) and his wife Shilpa (26).

According to the police, Harish had an illicit affair with a woman named Shalini and both had eloped two weeks ago. Shalini’s husband Revanna lodged a police complaint against Harish and also tried to attack him in front of the Byatarayanapura police station.

Revanna later went to Harish’s house, along with a group of men, and threatened to kill him. Following this Harish went to Kanakapura to meet his relatives and committed suicide on Monday. When Revanna started harassing Shilpa, she consumed poison inside a room and ended her life on Wednesday night. Both of them left no suicide note, the police said.

Harish’s brother, Girish, has lodged a complaint against Revanna on the charges of abetment for the couple’s suicides. Revanna who is a realtor in the area is yet to be arrested by the police for questioning.
