Keeping close watch over custodial deaths, says KSHRC

Following a spike in custodial deaths and shootouts in Bengaluru, Chairman of the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission Justice D H Waghela said on Wednesday that
the commission is keeping a close watch over the situation.

Speaking on the issue of strengthening the commission, Justice Waghela said the KSHRC is keeping a close watch on all the shootouts and custodial deaths and if any human rights violation is found, the commission will intervene and take up the case.

There is no gender discrimination in registering cases and the commission’s aim is to register a case and deliver justice to the victims.

If any officer is found guilty, a report would be sent to the state government to initiate action against them, he said.

Justice Waghela further added that the menace of fake news, activists, NGOs and organisations have increased and the commission is aware of it and is initiating action.

People should be aware that KSHRC is a constitutional body, he said.
