Last Updated 18 July 2019, 08:28 IST

Celebrating 50 years of the Jnanpith recipient’s work — Sri Ramayana Darshanam by the renowned poet Kuvempu —the state-run repertory theatre from Mysuru, Rangayana has produced five half-hour long plays.

The plays which received an overwhelming response in Mysuru will be staged in Bengaluru on November 23 and November 24 at the Ravindra Kalakshetra. Previously, Rangayana had produced a nine-hour long play based on Kuvempu’s epic novel Malegalli Madumagalu, which received statewide acclaim.

According to K G Mahabaleshwar, the director of the latest play, the show will be of five hours duration with 15-minute intervals.

The 900-page work has been reduced to 110 pages after carefully selecting the lines without disturbing the flow of events.

While 50 per cent of the tickets will be sold online, the rest will be sold over the counter, according to a press release by the Kannada and Culture department.

More than 90 actors would participate in the realisation of the production.
