Landlord defaults on loan; Bankers harass DySP's kin

A deputy superintendent of police (DySP) has accused the officials of a private bank of trespassing, harassment and issuing threats in an attempt to evict his family from the apartment he rented.

JP Nagar police have filed an FIR on officials of Vijaya Bank based on a complaint by B S Srinivas, the DySP of Chintamani sub-division, charging them with trespassing, criminal intimidation and outraging the modesty of a woman.

Srinivas said his family has been living at the apartment located in JP Nagar 3rd Stage since 2012. The rental agreement is valid until November 2019.

The house owner had taken a loan pledging the flat and had defaulted on the payment, prompting the bank to issue a notice to both the owner and (tenant) Srinivas to take over the flat for auctioning.

Srinivas approached the court and obtained a stay which directed the bank not to proceed with the seizure of the property until the next hearing in June. But on Tuesday, around eight men barged into the flat and misbehaved with the DySP’s wife and other family members. They issued threats and asked them to vacate the flat.

The bank officials took videos of the family members despite objections and fled the scene when the family informed Srinivas, who sought the help of the jurisdictional police. JP Nagar police summoned the bank officials for questioning.
