A 25-year-old man killed his wife, three days after their marriage, and committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train in Byappanahalli on Sunday.

The woman is identified as Roshi (21), a resident of KHB Colony in Byappanahalli. Her husband, Raju, was a resident of Frazer Town, and was a driver of a garbage-collecting vehicle. The police are yet to ascertain the reason behind this extreme step.

A senior police officer said even though the couple was married three days ago, they were not living together. Raju visited Roshi’s house on Saturday night and argued over her alleged illicit relationship with another man, Appu, a daily wager.

In a fit of rage, Raju stabbed her repeatedly. Once he came to his senses, he rushed her to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her dead on Sunday afternoon. Wasting no time, Raju went to PK Colony near his house and jumped in front of a moving train.

Residents alerted the Frazer Town police. Later, the hospital authorities informed the Byappanahalli police.

According to the preliminary investigation, Raju had an affair with Roshi’s mother, Mary. Mary, in her statement, said that Raju insisted that he wanted to marry her daughter.

The police said that both the families are yet to record their statements.
