The students, who have passed the recent SSLC examinations, are now in a rush to apply to colleges of their choice to get admission for first year PU course.

When Deccan Herald spoke to a cross section of students, many of them seem to prefer Science in spite of many streams and combinations of subjects to choose from.

Rachana, a student from Bengaluru, said, “I don’t want to take Biology because I am poor at drawing. But I like Computer Science, which is why I am opting for PCMC.”

She is of the opinion that Science has greater scope since she will have more options for her undergraduate studies. “I wanted to take Commerce at first. But my father and friends advised me to choose Science because I can study engineering, biotechnology or other such subjects after PUC. I browsed on the internet for more information and then decided for myself.”

Similiar opinion
Nirupama, who obtained 85.5 percentage in her SSLC exams, had a similar opinion.
Though she wants to pursue medicine as of now, she said, “I am taking PCMB combination because I can opt for engineering if my interests change later.”

One of the few takers for Commerce stream, Seema said, “I chose Commerce because I am weak in Science.”

Quite a few students have based their decisions on information on the internet. Shawin D’Souza, who scored 83 per cent, said: “Earlier, I wanted to take up Biology. But my family advised me to take Electronics instead. So, I surfed the Internet to know more about Marine Engineering and the basic criteria to apply for the course. Since then, I am passionate about Electronics as a subject. I want to become a marine engineer.”

Shawin has already been admitted to St. Aloysius P U College in Mangaluru for PCME combination.
