The condition of the jailed People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Maulana Abdul Nasser Maudany, has deteriorated, said Mohammed Basheer, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) Lok Sabha member from Ponnani constituency in Kerala.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Basheer said he met Maudany at the Parappana Agrahara Jail in Bangalore for an hour on Wednesday morning and enquired about his health.

Basheer rued that symptoms of gangrene have emerged in Maudany's right thigh which was amputated a few years ago. “His condition has worsened because no relatives are allowed to attend on him,” he added.

A delegation of IUML and Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre led by Basheer called on the Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, who has reportedly assured all possible assistance to the jailed PDP leader within the framework of law.

The delegation received a similar assurance from the Governor H R Bhardwaj.
