Horticulture Minister M C Managuli on Friday promised to resolve all problems faced by walkers, joggers and visitors to the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens and said he will soon hold a meeting with officials to address the citizens' concerns.

The minister, while accepting the citizens' charter based on the issues that were discussed during the Janaspandana event organised by Deccan Herald-Prajavani at Lalbagh in November, at his office in Vidhana Soudha gave a patient hearing to the list of problems faced by the public.

Appreciating the role played by both the publications towards building a bond between the public and the government, Managuli said, "All the problems raised by the public during the event will be taken up in a time-bound manner." Walkers, during the event, had raised concerns over lack of toilets, medical facilities, potable water, garbage littering, insufficient CCTVs and stray dog menace.

Acknowledging the citizens' concerns, Managuli admitted, "I have also noticed that the department has not maintained the toilets properly. Several complaints have also come to my notice. I will soon hold a meeting with the officials and direct them to resolve the problems at the earliest." The minister also said that he would look into the request of setting up a canteen near the parking area for the benefit of visitors.

K N Tilak Kumar, Joint Managing Director of The Printers (Mysore) Private Ltd briefed the minister that an informal forum 'DH&PV Friends of Lalbagh' has been created involving daily walkers and joggers to apprise the department about the problems faced by the public and sought cooperation from the department. "The department will extend all the support to the forum in addressing public concerns," the minister assured.
