Modi to inaugurate BU hostel for Northeast girls tomorrow

Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a girls’ hostel for Northeast students on Jnanabharathi campus of the Bangalore University (BU) on Wednesday.

BU Vice-Chancellor Venugopal K R said that Modi will inaugurate the building through video-conference.

“On the sidelines of a BJP rally scheduled in Kalaburagi on March 6, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the hostel through video-conference at 11 am,” Venugopal said.

Rs 100-crore project

The Rs 100-crore project, funded by the Central government, is aimed at helping girl students from the Northeast studying in Bengaluru.

Launched in 2016, the project was supposed to be completed in 18 months. After missing several deadlines, the structure is finally ready. The hostel has 125 rooms. Each room can accommodate three students. As the building is on the BU campus, 25% of admission is reserved for BU students.

“Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and other leaders will also be part of the event. A few BU students will also be admitted in the hostel,” a senior BU official told DH.
