While B'luru cops nap, Mumbai police arrest 3 for fraud

Bengaluru cops were caught off guard when their Mumbai counterparts picked up three people, including a woman, from Horamavu limits in connection with an international job racket.

The sleuths from the elite crime branch of Mumbai police busted the racket, which swindled lakhs from aspirants promising jobs in Canada, the US and UAE.

When DH spoke to Horamavu police, the officials had no clue about the operation. However, Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru East Division, later confirmed that the Mumbai crime branch picked up three people from their jurisdictional limits.

In August 2018, a senior citizen looking for job came across 'International Jobs and Free Recruitment' on Facebook, which claimed it had placed people in Canada, the US and UAE. The complainant sent his bio-data and was informed about an opening in Canada.

The suspects had created a WhatsApp group where candidates were asked to send photos, passport copies etc. They were also asked to deposit Rs 1.48 lakh to different bank accounts. However, when there was no response, the Mumbai-based complainant lodged an FIR with Kandivli police station. The case was then transferred to Unit-11 of the Detection of Crime Branch, CID.

Last week, the first suspect was arrested from Goregaon in Mumbai. Thereafter, two men and a woman were arrested from Bengalaru.
