The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission increased the tariff marginally for both Namma Metro and electric vehicle charging stations while maintaining that the revised rates were concessional.
The tariff for Namma Metro increased by 20 paise per unit from Rs 5 to Rs 5.20. The electric vehicle charging stations have to pay Rs 5 per unit, an increase of 15 paise compared with last year’s Rs 4.85.
To a question, KERC chairman Shambhu Dayal Meena, however, noted that the increase was marginal, and has been made considering the cost incurred by the Escoms. “It is concessional tariff if we consider the revenue gap of the Escoms. We will continue to support electric mobility,” he said. The railways will continue to get an exemption from the peak hour penal charges while the commission has decided not to increase the tariff of Rs 6.20/unit.
BMRCL officials said the increase would not have any major effect on the metro.
“The annual cost may go up by about Rs 1.8 crore. Considering that the corporation had an operational surplus of Rs 94 crore last year, the tariff will not have a major impact,” BMRCL public relations officer B L Yashwant Chavan said.
