Last Updated 10 July 2018, 20:35 IST

Amid the row over the trifurcation of the Bangalore University (BU), the BU authorities have geared up for the establishment of a new campus in the Ramanagaram district.

At present, a Postgraduate centre affiliated with the BU is functioning in Ramanagaram, which will be upgraded with additional courses in the coming days. The new campus will be under the administration of the Bangalore University (Jnanbharathi campus)

Confirming the same, the Vice-Chancellor of BU Venugopal KR said: “Along with the Ramanagar DC, I visited the spot on Tuesday. We have identified 100 acres of vacant land near the Kengal Hanumanthaiah Bhavan in Ramanagaram. The DC has agreed for it and has promised to take further action for the process. We will be offering more courses in the coming time, which will be a stepping stone for the establishment. If everything goes well, within 5 years we can have a separate BU campus in Ramanagaram.”

The BU has decided to start with Maths, History, Sociology, Rural Development and Political Science in the degree level and add a few MBA courses in the PG level initially. “The present PG centre with Economics and Commerce is getting a good response. There is a huge demand for other courses too. With a vision of ten years down the line, we have planned to establish a new campus. This will be a boon for many rural students of Ramanagaram, Channapatna, Kanakapura, Magadi and Bidadi towns,” added VC.
