No harm if corporators vacation in resort: Deve Gowda

Last Updated 31 August 2015, 21:25 IST

Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda said on Monday that there is nothing wrong in taking JD(S) corporators to a resort in the neighbouring state.

Speaking to reporters after attending a function here, Gowda said, “ I have asked party corporators to stay in a safe place, away from their family, for a few days.”

Gowda said that JD(S) had become a victim of BJP’s 'Operation Kamala'. “As soon as the BBMP results were announced, a BJP leader issued a statement asking five JD(S) members to join hands with them. A few elected members of the JD(S) also complained that representatives of a national party have been exerting pressure on them. Hence, I asked my party corporators to stay away from their family with police security. Our leaders have accompanied them to a resort, which is considered safe. After the announcement of the mayor, a meeting would be convened and the future course of action would be discussed,” Gowda added.

The JD (S) leader denied reports that BJP leaders Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah have spoken to H D Kumaraswamy, seeking the party’s support. Except for Union Minister Sadananda Gowda, no one has contacted me, he clarified.

District tour

Deve Gowda said that he would visit various districts to understand the problems faced by farmers and convene a progress review meeting in Hassan on September 9. He is also expected to participate in a meeting scheduled to be held in Chikkamagalur on September 16.
