No trace of IIT student's body

Last Updated 25 February 2014, 20:01 IST

The body of an IIT-Kharagpur student, who drowned in Mekedaatu falls in Kanakapura taluk on Sunday, could not be fished out even on Tuesday as the rocky terrain made the task of rescue workers a lot more difficult.

The fire brigade, the National Disaster Management Force and the police are jointly looking for the body.

Sahil Jalan, 22, nephew of former RBI governor Bimal Jalan, was on an excursion with four of his friends. He went into the knee-deep water and got stuck there. His friends tried to rescue him but failed as the water swept him away.

“The area has both still and moving water. Rescue workers are looking at the accident spot and around that particular area. The area is very rocky. Boats cannot easily move there,” said Kuldeep Jain, Assistant SP, Channapatna.
