Outrage over brutal killing of pup

Residents of HSR Layout, Sector 2 are outraged after a group of men killed a five-month-old puppy after it entered an apartment complex to seek shelter from the rain.

The incident occurred around 4.30 pm on Tuesday evening in front of a prominent apartment complex, where eyewitnesses said that a group of men including the security guards of the apartment had caught a pup, tied its legs and stuffed it in a gunny bag. They then beat the pup to death and threw the sack away, the eyewitnesses added.

One of the eyewitnesses, Ajay, said he was at home when he heard many stray dogs howling and barking loudly. “I saw a few men had put a small dog inside a gunny bag and were beating it. I could also see a few stray dogs barking and howling. The dog in the gunny bag was howling too. When I enquired with the security staff, I could only gather that the security supervisor would take care of the dog since I do understand their language,” he added.

However, a resident of the apartment, who owns pet dogs and feeds other stray dogs, said that she learnt about the incident through her friend. “Stray dogs normally enter our apartment premises and the security guards have a tough time chasing them away. I think the pup had entered to take shelter as it was raining. But I am still unsure about what happened to the dog,” she added.

Chandini, a resident of Sector 2 said that she learnt about the incident through a Sector 2 resident welfare association's (RWA) Whatsapp group and had a meeting in the evening. "One of the security guards opened up and said that the dog had died inside the gunny bag and they had dumped it right outside the apartment on a heap of dry leaves. We are taking this issue very seriously," she said.
