Police shoot at robber In Chikkajala, constable hurt

The police shot at a notorious thief and injured him in Chikkajala on Thursday after he attacked the policemen.

The suspect is Mohammad Ashraf Khan, a resident of RT Nagar.

Constable Lokesh was also injured during the action.

Khan has been admitted at Victoria Hospital, while Lokesh is being treated at a private hospital. The duo is out of danger, said the police.

Khan and his associates are reportedly involved in a series of robberies during wee hours of Thursday. The hunt is on for his associates, said the police.

Six robberies were reported between 4 am and 5.30 am during wee hours of Thursday in and around the Kempegowda International Airport and Chikkajala.

The suspects grievously injured two victims and had robbed five mobile phones and two motorcycles.

On receiving alerts about the robberies, the police put up picketing points at all the entry and exits of the two localities.

Police sub-inspector Praveen Kumar and constable Lokesh, on duty at a point in Bharathinagar near Chikkajala. Khan, who was on his way to Chikkajala from the airport on a bike, abruptly stopped after spotting the police, took a U-turn and fled.

Suspecting his intention, Kumar and Lokesh chased him and intercepted him near VIT college.

Khan then pulled out a sharp-edged weapon and assaulted Lokesh, who sustained an injury on his right hand.

Kumar shot in the air and directed Khan to surrender. However, he tried to attack the PSI. For self-defence, Kumar shot at and injured Khan on his leg.

The Chikkajala police have registered a case of assault on police along with detection of six robberies at KIA and Chikkajala police jurisdictions.
