Prison staffer smuggles marijuana to inmates

A physical education instructor working at the Parappana Agarahara Central prison for the past five years is now lodged in the same prison for smuggling marijuana to the convicts for cash.

According to M V Boralingaiah, DCP, (southeast division), the suspect Kumaraswamy B, a resident of Parappana Agrahara residential complex, was arrested after four months since the prison officials caught smuggled marijuana.

The investigation revealed that he was selling marijuana to inmates for a price.

The police said Kumaraswamy on August 21 gave four packets of marijuana, with 100 gram each, to convicts Krishna alias Dandupalya Krishna and Manjunath.

However, after officials came to know about this he went absconding.

He was arrested from Halamadenahalli in Hiriyur taluk on Wednesday.

The police produced Kumaraswamy before the magistrate and took him to custody to ascertain the source of the marijuana and also to know long he was running the racket.
