Protest against barricade on disputed land

Last Updated 09 February 2019, 20:36 IST

Residents of Ranka Court Apartment in Cambridge Layout staged a protest against a private builder who tried constructing a wall in a disputed land nearby on Saturday.

Close to 250 residents protested against the builder by raising slogans. With the dispute still going on in the court, one of the builders, the superintendent of posts, was trying to construct a wall in the land.

Residents are against it since the land has water and sewage pipelines for the apartment and water supply to the nearly 180 apartments in the building will be affected.

Reemit Gupta, a resident, said: “Initially this land was sold to the apartment owners, but we later learnt about the legal battle. If this wall comes up, all the sewage lines and the water supply pipeline will be affected.”

She also said children in the apartment use the open space as play area.

When DH contacted Shivaram BP from the Postal department who sent the contractors to construct the wall, he declined to comment.

Residents are planning to file an interim appeal in the court regarding the issue on Monday.
