A 53-year-old real estate businessman from Hosapete and his friend were dragged out of their car and robbed by five armed men near Nelamangala on the northern outskirts of Bengaluru in the early hours of Monday, police said.

Gurusiddangouda and his friend Honnurappa Madiwala, a BJP party leader from Karatagi, Koppal district, were driving to Bengaluru. As they reached T Begur on the outskirts of the city, their chauffeur Umesh pulled into the roadside to take a nap. Around 4.30 am when all the three men were fast asleep, five armed men knocked on the windscreen.

As the trio shrugged off sleep and opened the door, the gang attacked them and took away their mobile phones and cash. The gang then dragged them out of the car and dumped them 200 metres away before driving off in their automobile.

The trio later went to the Nelamangala police station and filed a complaint. Police have opened a case and taken the suspects’ physical description.

The suspects are aged 25-30 and speak Kannada, as per the complaint.
