Repair works at Varthur bridge begin

Last Updated 14 June 2018, 17:24 IST

Almost 20 days after the Varthur bridge began wobbling, BBMP officials have begun the repair work here on Thursday.

"The technical team has begun the repair work on the Varthur bridge from Thursday. The movement of vehicles will not be affected as we have taken necessary measures," said BBMP Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao. He said the work may take 15 days for completion.

After local residents and NGOs petitioned the civic body, a committee of engineers and experts had inspected the bridge and suggested a replacement of its bearings on May 23. The residents warned that the dilapidated condition of the structure could pose a danger to commuters.

There was restriction on heavy vehicles weighing more than 10 tons from using the bridge.
