RR Nagar: seven cases filed for poll code breach

Even as the Election Commission, the BBMP and the police are on their toes to ensure a smooth polling in Rajarajeshwari Nagar (RR Nagar) constituency on May 28, the police have filed seven cases for violating the model code of conduct in the constituency.

Also, four polling stations have been identified as critical, and 186 have been marked sensitive.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, City Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar said, “In the view of elections, we will deploy 15 KSRP and 10 CPMF battalions in RR Nagar. While 20 polling stations have been proposed to be covered by webcasting, 31 more will be covered by video cameras.”

The EC has appointed one general observer and two expenditure observers for the constituency. “There will be four pink polling stations, completely managed by women in the constituency. As far as EVM and VVPATs are concerned, 421 control units have been proposed to be used, with a surplus 20% to be kept as reserved,” said M Maheshwar Rao, District election officer, and BBMP Commissioner.

As many as 1,165 postal ballots have been issued, and the EC has received 607 postal ballots till Monday. According to the EC, there are eight service voters in the constituency.

The Election Commission, on the eve of Assembly elections on May 12, had postponed the polls to the R R Nagar constituency to May 28 after 9,564 voter identity cards and other articles were seized. The counting of votes will be held on May 31.
