AIADMK leader V K Sasikala, who has been imprisoned in Bengaluru's Parapana Aagrahara prison over inappropriate assets case, has expressed her desire to learn Kannada language.

Sasikala, the close pal of late Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, is said to be already communicating in Kannada with her jail inmates.

Sources in the jail said she is also going to take admission in a Kannada learning course in the distance education department of Bangalore University (BU).

Confirming the news to DH, Mylarappa, director (in-charge), BU Distance Education said, "Jail authorities have conveyed me about Sasikala's interest in learning Kannada. Everybody has the right to learn. I will be visiting Parapana Aagrahara jail later this week and give her the details about the course."

He also added that they have received more than 200 applications from jail inmates who have also expressed their desire to join various courses in distance education.

"We are also thinking of starting a special training centre and examination centre in the prison premises for the jail inmates," he adds.

Sasikala is more likely to get enrolled for a post-graduation (PG) course in Kannada. She is also said to be aware and thoroughly learnt the alphabets in Kannada.
